The short answer

A well cut 1 carat lab-grown diamond with a grading report sells for roughly $700 to $1,500 on its own in 2026. A mined diamond of the same grade costs several times as much.

At ART, an engagement ring in 18k gold starts from $1,100 with a 0.50 carat centre stone. The Classic Solitaire Ring with a 1.00 carat stone costs $1,550.

Rings start from $850, earrings from $650, necklaces from $850 and bracelets from $2,650.

What a lab-grown diamond costs by carat

These are typical retail prices in October 2026 for a loose round lab-grown diamond with an excellent cut, G to H colour, VS clarity and a full report from an independent laboratory. Sellers differ, and prices have fallen year after year, so read them as a range, not a quote.

CaratTypical priceAbout per carat
0.50$300 to $500$600 to $1,000
1.00$700 to $1,500$700 to $1,500
1.50$1,200 to $2,500$800 to $1,650
2.00$1,700 to $3,500$850 to $1,750
3.00$3,500 to $7,000$1,150 to $2,350

The price per carat rises with size, because large clean crystals take longer to grow. It also jumps at the round numbers. A 0.90 carat stone looks the same on the hand as a 1.00 carat and costs noticeably less.

What changes the price of a diamond

  • Carat. Weight changes the price more than anything else.
  • Cut. An excellent cut costs a little more and is worth it, because it decides how bright the stone is. See the four Cs.
  • Colour and clarity. Each grade up costs more. Beyond G colour and VS clarity, the difference is hard to see without a loupe.
  • Shape. A round costs the most per carat, because more of the crystal is cut away to make it. Ovals, cushions and emerald cuts usually cost less for the same weight. See diamond shapes.
  • The report. A stone sold with a full report from an independent laboratory such as IGI or GIA costs a little more. It is also the only way to know exactly what you are buying.

What the gold and the setting add

18k gold is 75 percent pure gold. With gold at about $4,060 an ounce in October 2026, one gram of 18k gold holds about $98 of gold.

A plain solitaire uses about 3 to 4 grams of 18k gold. A halo ring with a pavé band uses 4 to 6. A tennis bracelet uses 10 to 15 grams. That is why a bracelet set only with small diamonds can cost more than a ring with a large one.

On top of the gold come the small diamonds and the hours of setting them one by one. A band set with forty small stones takes far longer to make than a plain one.

The colour of the gold does not change the price at ART. White, yellow and rose 18k gold cost the same. See gold colours and karats.

What ART pieces cost

Every piece is made to order in 18k gold. The price as shown is for the piece as it is pictured and described on its page. Where a smaller centre stone is possible, the price with it is given too.

What a budget reaches

If your budget is fixed, tell us. We will show you what it reaches, and if a smaller stone will look the same on the hand, we will say so.

How a quote works

Prices on this site are in US dollars. They include the gold, every diamond, the making and, for a centre stone, its grading report. Delivery is quoted separately.

Gold and diamond prices move. When you enquire, we confirm the price in writing for the stone, the gold and the size you choose. Nothing is made, and nothing is paid, until you have agreed to it.

Questions

Asked often.

All questions
How much does a 1 carat lab-grown diamond cost?

In 2026 a well cut 1 carat lab-grown diamond with G to H colour, VS clarity and a full grading report typically sells for about $700 to $1,500 on its own. Set in an 18k gold solitaire at ART, a 1 carat engagement ring costs $1,550.

How much is a lab-grown diamond engagement ring?

At ART, engagement rings start from $1,100 with a 0.50 carat centre stone. As shown, with centre stones of 0.75 to 1.50 carats, they cost $1,550 to $2,500, all in 18k gold.

Why do lab-grown diamonds cost less than mined diamonds?

A lab-grown diamond carries no cost of mining and can be grown to meet demand, while large natural diamonds are rare. Both are real diamond, with the same hardness and the same brilliance.

Does the colour of the gold change the price?

Not at ART. White, yellow and rose 18k gold cost the same. The price depends on the diamonds and on how much gold the piece uses.
